Family Values Nurture Generations of Service
It all began in 1956 when Bruno Michelotti and his brother-in-law founded Northwest Meat Company in what is now considered Chicago’s River West neighborhood. Bruno and his wife, Genevieve, were immigrants from Italy’s Tuscan region where they learned ingenuity, entrepreneurship, and an appreciation for excellent quality meat. Both coming from a long line of business owners, they traveled to America as young adults in hopes to find and build their own dreams. Finally, in 1969 Bruno and Genevieve started their own business, which has continued for three generations.
A Tradition of Excellence Continues
Bruno and Genevieve, along with their children, Roger, Lori, and Linda continued to grow their company and their reputation for excellence, quality, and consistency. Their mission as a local wholesale meat distributor in Chicago was to provide high-quality products and customer service to Chicago’s emerging and established restaurant industry. In 1982, Bruno’s son-in-law, Stan Neva, joined the business and in 1997, acquired the company upon Bruno’s passing. In 2010, Northwest Meat Company became a third-generation family business when Stan and Lori’s son, Andrew, joined the company after receiving a degree in Animal Science from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

A Growing Chicago Wholesale Meat Distributor Supporting The Local Economy
Northwest Meat Company’s original building was located on Grand, Milwaukee and Halsted. The company stayed there until 1969 and then moved to the intersection of Morgan and Hubbard Street.
With continued expansion, the local wholesale meat distributor moved in 2015 to its current location, a 15,000 square foot facility in the growing Fulton Market area. Located on Justine and Arbour Street, this modern manufacturing space with the latest technology in equipment supports business growth and scalability. It also enables the company to be more consistent and efficient with bigger production areas and greater volume. The company can continue to grow and modernize while still staying true to their family legacy.

Our customers know we are committed to excellent service, products, and price. We are passionate about bringing you products made in Chicago at a price point that works for you. Wet or dry aging, our USDA Certified cuts of meat are hand-cut by skilled butchers to your portion-control specifications, ensuring consistent quality every time. We have the highest standards and make it a priority to far exceed government food safety requirements. We also ensure our sourcing partners do the same.
